I’ve read many blog articles on why not to set New Year’s Resolutions or goals for 2021. All of the reasons listed point to how 2020 “threw a wrench into things”, so to speak. However, tyrannical government rulings should not force you to change who you are or what you want to accomplish…it should only make you strive for it even more.

Some of the things I accomplished in 2020, despite all of the challenges were:

1. Graduating college debt-free

I did it! I was able to graduate with my Bachelor’s degree in December 2020 – debt free. If you want to see some of the steps I took to getting to this point, feel free to check out my article. It is possible to achieve, and it is a relief to know that you’re not starting out after college in debt (especially with everything that happened in 2020).

2. Getting a job after college

I was able to get a paid internship, working for a state lab, right out of college. I applied for jobs and internships in multiple states, and this one seemed to be perfect – a reasonable amount of pay and I will hopefully gain a lot of experience. (Note: the best thing about job applications is that they are free!)

3. Starting a blog

I started Back To Stable Hill in May 2020, and have had over 1,000 viewers across the globe since then – including you! Out of the 64 articles that I wrote in 2020, some of the most-read were Good News, Can Nothing Explode?, Christmas Gift Ideas to Grow Your Mind and Feed Your Soul, Stand Up, and It’s High Time We Wake Up. Some of my personal favorites were the Creation series, the Flood series, Getting Cut Hurts, What is Faith?, and Psalm 37:5. Feel free to let me know which are your favorites! 

So, should you set New Year’s Resolutions, even in the middle of the crazy world we live in? Yes! If you have something you’ve been wanting to accomplish – such as learning a new language or finally learning how to cut your own hair – then go for it! Don’t let tyranny direct another step in your life, and don’t let government dictators tell you what you can do with your life. Yes, always plan for challenges (ever heard of Murphy’s Law?), but don’t let the fear of the unknown keep you from bettering yourself or living your life.

Here are a few of my New Year’s Resolutions:

1. Don’t burn down my rental home

You probably didn’t expect this one, but I’d prefer to keep the rental standing. Thus, my first resolution is to not burn the place down, or otherwise demolish it 🤣. 

2. Learn something new

Whether it’s a recipe, language, history fact, or skill, I’d like to be able to learn something new this year. One thing I’m planning to focus on is improving and learning photography skills.

3. Strengthen my prayer life

This year, I want to spend more time in God’s Word and strengthen my prayer life. We have a battle to fight, and if I intend to do a good job, I need to have a working knowledge of my weapons. 

For example, if I was to go into battle with a gun, but had never once shot it or even looked at it, would I be a good and effective soldier? Likely not. However, if I’d taken that gun and practiced with it at the range, dismantled it, and then pieced it back together until I knew each of the inner workings and their function by heart, then I would be better able to resist the enemy. 

The same is with reading, praying, and knowing God’s Word.
