How To Live Your Life

The personal development stage is a nearly $51 billion industry (1), and is only expected to grow. All over social media, you see videos/posts about how to reinvent yourself, become that person, how to glow up, growth mindset. So many books, courses, podcasts dedicated to helping others change their lives to become something different.

“Ask anyone who’s time is up what they’d give for what you’ve got, and how they’d live your life. Live like your life’s worth dying for…cause someone died for you.”

– “This is the Time” by Superchick

When Spotify did a deep dive into songs I used to listen to, I remembered why I liked this song so much (that, and I was introduced to it when watching God’s Not Dead). In a world where you can immediately access everyone’s opinion on how your life is not the best it can be and how it could be better if you watch their video, listen to their podcast, read their book, or enroll in their course, I think sometimes we get too wrapped up in it.

If you were talking to someone who knew they were dying, and asked them how you should live your life, what do you think they would tell you?

They probably wouldn’t tell you that a 4am morning routine with a daily matcha and yoga session is mandatory for a great life. Instead, they’ll probably tell you to spend time with those you love – you never know when the last time you’ll ever see them will be. They’d tell you to find a job that makes you happy (nothing too extreme, just don’t hate your work) and to go and see the world and visit people you can’t see often. How do I know? Because I’ve chatted with someone who is dying, and this is the advice she gave me and my husband (I’ll share more of her story later).

While personal development can be great, I think sometimes we get so invested in what we think others think our lives should look like that we miss the larger picture. What are we going to think was important when we’re dying? Do you think we would have wished to have done one more extracurricular activity, or spend some more time with our family (whether blood or chosen)?

It’s like you’re stuck in a movie scene, stuck on the train tracks, and there’s a train throttling at full speed ahead, horn blaring. You’re panicking, you know there’s no way out of this…until someone shoves you out of the way and takes your place. How would you live your life if someone had died for you? I think you’d probably be living it differently. You’d have a different priority list and realize that life is fleeting, and that we should make the best of what we’re given. You’d probably also be telling everyone what happened.

Turns out, Someone did die for you. He gave His life so that you could have eternal life and not spend eternity in Hell. We should start acting like it.

If you are not 100% sure that you’ll go to Heaven when you die, now is the time to repent and put your trust in Jesus Christ. If you have any questions or doubts about your salvation, click here to learn how you can be saved!
