Do You Curse God?

Imagine, you and your fellow humans have all been cursed with an extremely painful sore all over you. All of the water in the world has turned to blood. The world is plunged into a massive heatwave and darkness. There is thunder and lightning and such an earthquake that has never happened in history – the islands are gone, the mountains are flattened, and the cities are divided and falling. And now there are 75-100 pound hailstones raining down.

Throughout all of this, you know why this is happening and who has caused it. You know that this all comes from the hand of God, and the only reason you have to live through it is because you decided not to follow Him. And yet, even though changing your mind and realizing that God is all powerful and gives you a way out, you decide to dig your heels in.

“And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.”

– Revelations 16:9

“…and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.”

– Revelations 16:10b-11

“…and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.”

– Revelations 16:21

Reading this, we’re probably wondering why they aren’t coming to repentance. God has a way out of this, and while all of these curses are happening, each time they come back and blaspheme God and repent not.

Throughout this whole chapter of Revelations, the Bible says twice that they repented not, which to me, shows that there were multiple chances for them to. But instead, with the world literally falling down around them and the pain they are in, they decide that the easiest thing to do is curse God, and not face their sin.

While we are not yet living through Revelations 16, when you go through hard times, and the world seems to be falling down around you and you don’t see a way out, what do you do? Do you fall on Christ, knowing He will rescue you? Or do you curse Him for letting so many horrible things go wrong in your life? After all, He could stop it if He wanted, so why doesn’t He?

Don’t make the same mistake as those in Revelations 16. When everything is going wrong in your life and you find that it would be easy to just blame God, stop and realize that He will provide a way. He may not get rid of your sickness with a snap of his fingers, but He will be with you through it and one day, you’ll get to join him in Heaven if you have put your faith and trust in Him. Rely on Christ and you’ll have so much more joy in your life.

If you are not 100% sure that you’ll go to Heaven when you die, now is the time to repent and put your trust in Jesus Christ. If you have any questions or doubts about your salvation, click here to learn how you can be saved!
