As I look at what articles I had scheduled these next few days, they all just seem…trivial and perhaps even juvenile in light of what’s occurred. I don’t feel like it would be the right thing for me to briefly mention the tragedy of Charlie Kirk and then just switch back to summer goals and Life Lessons from North Carolina. Our country has changed, and I’m pretty sure that a lot of people feel that. What has changed, I’m not even sure…but there’s something different after Charlie’s murder. I’m going to spend the next few posts, however long it feels right, analyzing what our response, as Christians and Patriots, should be.
Today’s will be pretty short, based off of a song I had previously been listening to on repeat ever since it came out, but now suddenly means something more.
I heard a friend of a friend got the news today, the kind nobody wants to hear. Man, it’s crazy how one minute it’s a no-worry day, and the next, you’re staring down your fear. Made me think about the life that I’m living – am I giving it all I got?
Gonna make it matter, gonna make it count, gonna run this road ‘til the road runs out. From the first sunup to the last sundown, gonna run this road ‘til the road runs out.
– ‘Til The Road Runs Out by Anne Wilson
September 10, 2025 sure started out as a no-worry day. I was just doing paperwork when I got the text telling me what happened. You already know what occurred next – I saw something I never ever wanted to see, and I automatically had a heavy heart. A heavy heart for what had transpired, what that meant for our country, and extreme sadness for his wife and children. I can’t even imagine what that would be like.
But at the same time, I knew Charlie had been killed for his faith and for his Christian world view. No other reason. Reminds me of that inspirational phrase – if you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you? It was enough for Charlie Kirk.
And it made me think – how am I living my life? Do I have a strong enough conviction in my faith and my opinions that would make someone want to kill me? Or am I just lukewarm – only making it obvious when I’m with the right crowd?
“So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.”
– Revelations 3:16, King James Version
God doesn’t want us to be lukewarm or sit on the fence – be on one side or the other, and stand in those convictions, whether you’re right or wrong. You can’t just be a convenient Christian, or a convenient Patriot.
In fact, convenience isn’t once mentioned in the Bible. Rather, we are promised a hard world being followers of Christ:
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
– John 16:33, King James Version
It doesn’t matter what happens in our world – if you believe in Christ, your future is secure. And sure, you may make people upset with your faith and your opinions and it may come to the point that they kill you. It shouldn’t even be a surprise, as in Psalms 44:22 we find:
“Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.”
You’ve probably seen videos covering this conversation, but in June, Charlie was being interviewed, and the interviewer asked how he wanted to be remembered.
“I want to be remembered for courage for my faith. That would be the most important thing. The most important thing is my faith.”
– Charlie Kirk
I think his wish was fulfilled. Charlie Kirk is remembered for his courage for his faith – he made it very clear Who he followed, he was having an impact on my generation, and that is why he was killed.
If you were to die today…what would you be remembered for? What would I be remembered for?
We’ve got to run this road and this race until we run out of time. We’ve got to make it matter. We need to make it count. From the day we were born till the day we die, we need to run this race until our road runs out.
It’s only fitting I close with a chorus from another Anne Wilson song, although feel free to replace twenty three with thirty one:
Boy you ran that road right out, made the most of every second God gave you. And I’ll be lucky to live half the life with the time that He gives me, than all the years you fit in only twenty three.”
– Twenty Three by Anne Wilson
