Happy Thanksgiving! One of my classes that I am currently taking (something along the lines of cultural competency in health sciences) pointed out this week that if you wish someone a Happy Thanksgiving in the discussion board, you should follow it up with a version of (if you celebrate it). Coming from a Christian university, I think this class has some good points, but others (like the whole Thanksgiving issue) is not a good point. If someone wished me a Happy Hannukah, I wouldn’t be offended, even though I don’t celebrate it.
But Thanksgiving, I don’t understand why people would be upset they were wished a happy one. It’s a very American celebration, started back in the beginning with the first pilgrims in Plymouth. I think being upset than an American wishes you a happy American holiday in America is kind of dumb, although some people somehow associate Thanksgiving with cultural oppression.
In the spirit of learning, I wanted to share a quick video I found on the history of Thanksgiving. And I will say, I wish that the sport that we still played was shooting sports, it would make Thanksgiving get togethers far more fun, in my opinion.
Anyways, I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving and wonderful time spent with family!
