Today, we’re wrapping up this series on why Alyssa believes God does not exist. At the end of the video, Alyssa sums up her final points.
“I feel like Jesus seemed to preach to be loving and accepting to all people, and not to have this exclusivity that seems to prevail so many Christians’ was of who gets to call themselves Christian or not.” She goes on: “It’s so mean-spirited to me.” and that the messages of Jesus don’t seem to exclude other people.
But…that’s the whole point. Christianity is exclusionary. Heaven is exclusionary. Salvation is exclusionary. Contrary to what Alyssa thinks, God is not accepting of everyone. There is only one way to Heaven, and it is through accepting the free gift of salvation. He died to save the world. If He was accepting, no one would need to be saved, Heaven and Hell would not exist, and He would not have died in our place. Sin wouldn’t matter, you could kill anyone you wanted, do the wickedest things in the world and you’d still be just fine in the end. But that would not make God very loving, or just. What is the point of a loving, just God, if wickedness is rewarded?
And I just have to say…for an hour long video, the lack of evidence as to why God does exist is astonishing. What, in all of the articles I just wrote, had to do with God not existing? It was all based on feelings, how she felt about Christianity, how she felt about God…but there was zero actual evidence. Feelings aren’t evidence, unfortunately, else I’d be done with my Ph.D. in record time.
But she did bring up something at the very end.
“Historically, religion and faith is a core part and seemingly every person looks for something and that lots of people have a desire to believe in something. Belief seems to be inherent. We are biologically wired to believe.”
Strangely, that sentiment is supported by the Bible.
“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.”
– Romans 1:20, King James Version
Alyssa wraps it up by saying that her hope is to make religion better, kinder, more accepting, and not victimizing minority groups. She thinks death is just the end, but she acknowledges for some people that sentiment is not very comforting. Alyssa also ends by saying religion is a placebo.
As I wrap up this series, I will agree and say that religion will not save you. Only God will, and if you think death is just the end, then you had better hope you’re correct. All the signs and evidence I see points to how there is life after death – life with Christ or a life of eternal pain in Hell. Alyssa’s complaints with religion can be valid – but I think throughout this she just interchanged terms between Christianity and religion. Religion cannot save you – only God can.
