I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither present nor the future, nor powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is ours in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-Romans 8:38-39, King James Version
I always enjoy reading through the book of Romans. As I’m sure you’ve noticed, this world is crazy, unpredictable, depressing, and often we’re not surprised anymore by bad things happening. All the media talks about, on both sides of the political spectrum, is how bad the world is.
Of course, we already knew that. Way back in the beginning of the Bible, in Genesis, that was established. That’s why God sent a worldwide flood, but sin is still part of our nature.
People are always going to be evil, and it can be easy to get sad when you see the state of affairs. Sometimes it feels like there’s no hope. But there is. We know how the world is going to end. We don’t need to be afraid or sad. As long as we have our trust in Christ and have accepted His free gift of salvation, it’ll all work out in the end. Romans is a good reminder of this. If we are saved, there is nothing that anyone or anything can do to change that. And this should bring us comfort and hope – we know that nothing that happens surprises God, and we have peace in Him.
