7 Biblical Things To Look For In A Presidential Candidate

This November, America has a monumental decision. There are two candidates from the two major parties and we need to vote for the right candidate – biblically. This is no longer a matter of Democrat vs Republican. We’re not picking our favorite sports teams…we’re picking the future of America. And yes, God will put into power whomever He wants in power, but, as Christians, we are still obligated to vote. We need to remember to vote biblically…not based on a political party or what’s popular.

Before we get into this, I want you to know that we need to use God’s Standard – His Holy Word –  to pick the right candidate, just as we need to live by this same standard. And no one will measure up. Nobody is perfect. But we have to choose the candidate who aligns the most with God’s Word. The answer is clear. You just need to take your political party blinders off to see it.

We need to vote for someone who:

  1. Advocates for human life:

Exodus 20:13 is pretty clear. “Thou shalt not kill”. The Bible doesn’t say it’s okay to kill a child while in the womb, in fact, the KJV has a very descriptive narrative of what should happen to a guy who causes harm to a pregnant woman if she or the baby she is carrying are hurt in any way (Exodus 21:22-25).

2. Sees all humans as equal:

The Declaration of Independence states that “all men are created equal”, and yet there are those claiming that that phrase doesn’t really mean what it says…kind of like how they twist the words of the Bible to fit their agenda (but that’s another post for another day).

The Bible clearly says that all men came from Adam and Eve – “[a]nd hath made of one blood all nations of men” (Acts 17:26a). You see, the only difference between us is the amount of melanin in our skin. That’s it. Nothing more.

3. Stands for freedom of religion:

We need to elect someone who will let you worship the way that you desire. The Constitution of our country protects these rights. If we elect a candidate who doesn’t stand behind the founding principles of this country – how can we expect to keep our freedom to worship God in the way that we choose? We’ve already started giving up this freedom during the COVID “pandemic”. Are you willing to fully lose it?

4. Stands for freedom:

Like I stated last week, you’re not free if the government is always telling you what to do…for example, wearing a mask. That is tyranny. Look at what started the American Revolution – taxes. What do you think would happen if they were living now? Pretty sure being forced to wear a mask or have a vaccine is taking away our freedom. Are you willingly going to elect someone who will take your freedom away?

5. Supports Israel:

We must stand by Israel. God says that He will bless those that bless Israel, and curse those that curse Israel (Genesis 1:23).

6. Doesn’t stand for socialism:

If you don’t know what socialism is, you should go look it up. If you don’t want to look up the economics of socialism, then just look at Nazi Germany, North Korea, the Soviet Union, China, Cuba, Vietnam, Venezuela, and the list goes on. People have been escaping these places for years and have fled to America. Do you really think socialism is good for America?

Capitalism is where you say, “I have four dollars and I want a hamburger”, and someone else says “I have a hamburger, and I’d really like four dollars”. You two meet, exchange the hamburger and money, and you’re both happy. You get your burger, and they get their four dollars.

A socialist government would force you to relinquish up to four dollars on the chance that you might get half a burger. At best you would end up with two dollars and half a burger. The American Dream is capitalism – where you can come here with nothing, and with hard work and determination, end up very successful. Interested in learning more? Here’s a quick 5 minute video explaining what socialism is.

The Bible says, “if any would not work, neither should he eat.” (2 Thessalonians 3:10b). I’m pretty sure that’s not socialism.

Besides, “there just ain’t no such thing as a free lunch.” – President Ronald Reagan

7. Keeps his word:

Numbers 32:24b stresses that we must “do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.” Who has the best track record of keeping their campaign promises?

***

This election is not about a political party. This election is not about the color of someone’s skin. This election is about picking the best candidate for the job. Who can protect America from destruction and who is closer to God’s Standard? You need to study God’s Word, and see which candidate aligns the most (and the best way to do that is look at their own words…not what someone else says they believe in).

You also need to vote. Other generations didn’t think it would be a big deal if they didn’t stand up against Roe v. Wade, taking the Bible out of school, or taking prayer out of school. And it made a huge difference. If they had spoken out, America could be very different than it is today.

Don’t sit back and think that this election isn’t important. This election will decide America’s course for the next several generations. This is the election that, when you’re talking to your grandchildren, you’ll be able to say one of two things: 1) that America was once free or 2) that America is free, because you drew that line in the sand and stood for freedom. Choose the best candidate by comparing them to God’s Word. No one is perfect, but one candidate will align better than the other. And that is who you should vote for.

If you’re not 100% sure that you’ll go to Heaven when you die, now is the time to repent and put your trust in Jesus Christ. If you have any questions or doubts about your salvation, click here to learn how you can be saved.

    1. Thank you! I wanted to see which candidate aligned closer to God’s Word, and the best way to figure it out is to look at what is important to God. Of course, no one will ever be perfect, but there will always be a better option. I’m glad you found this post informative!
