It’s been a crazy couple of years during my absence.
I’ve seemingly permanently injured my thumb (while crocheting!), moved across the country, received my Master’s degree in microbiology, and am now working as a science lab manager for a state university. I was also recently hired as an adjunct faculty teaching microbiology for nursing students at an out-of-state university. All of this within the three years of moving to one of the coldest states in the United States…five years after I graduated high school.
Oh, and in other important news, I got married to an amazingly awesome guy and became mom to a crazy pup!

Isn’t she goofy?
During my absence from Back To Stable Hill, I discovered Reddit – I love perusing r/Narnia, r/HogansHeroes, r/canning, r/psych, r/ididnthaveeggs (one-star reviews can be hilarious), and r/RelationshipAdvice (oh the drama…).
Then one day I stumbled across r/homeschool, and as such – on my only post that ever gained popularity (by popularity I mean it has 45 upvotes 🤣), there were so many questions asked, such as:
- How do I live normally while being homeschooled?
- How did your parents help you to appreciate learning?
- How did your parents afford it?
- Did you have a “proper” college experience?
- Did you feel you were prepared for college and graduate school?
- And a few more…
I realized that people had questions about homeschooling that I hadn’t even considered. I did my best to answer them, and my favorite was when one person (I’m pretty sure a kid) said they weren’t nearly as smart as me. I lol’d and emoji’d and said I’m certainly not super smart – I’m just dedicated and determined and worked exceedingly hard to pass (although remembering is a different thing…I don’t know that I could tell you a thing I learned in organic chemistry or physics or calculus…which I don’t use every day in life, as some people may try to convince you).
As my life is starting to slow down again and I’m getting used to my new routines, I figured I would return to Back to Stable Hill and see what God might have in store for this blog.
I may start with a homeschool-related post in a couple of days – but as always, feel free to drop any suggestions/questions you may have about anything!
